Little began his political career at the age of ten, as a page at the
Idaho State Convention in 1964; a role he would serve four years later
at the Miami National Republican convention which would nominate Richard
Nixon in 1968. Four years later, at the age of 18, he would return
to Miami as a delegate to the Republican National Convention, voting to
re-nominate President Nixon. Such was the successful pattern his
political life would follow to this day.
He first served in state government when he substituted for his father representing
District 9 from Emmett in the Idaho Senate in 1981 and 1985. He
returned to this position when appointed by Governor Dirk Kempthorne in
May 2001. He subsequently was elected and re-elected senator from
District 11 four times.
In the Idaho Senate, Little rose quickly
into leadership, being elected by his peers as Majority Caucus Chairman
in 2003. He held this position until appointed to fill the vacancy
left by then Lt. Governor Jim Risch’s election to the U.S. Senate in
January of 2009.
Little’s political philosophy has been
consistent throughout his career: to ensure the lightest possible
hand of government in the lives of citizens and businesses alike.
A successful businessman himself as the head of Little
Enterprises, Inc., Little is a former chairman of the Idaho Association
of Commerce and Industry (IACI) and the Idaho Wool Growers Association.
He is currently a member of the board of directors of Home Federal Bank
as well as Performance Design Incorporated; a small Boise based
manufacturing company.
In his personal life, Little married
Weiser native Teresa Soulen in May 1978 and they have two sons, Adam and
David.
