Section 12 of the Idaho Constitution states that the lieutenant governor’s role is to work closely with the governor to ensure all State laws are faithfully executed. If the governor is ever absent from the state, resigns from office, or is unable to effectively discharge the powers and duties of the governor’s office, then the lieutenant governor shall take on the role of acting governor until the governor can return.
Section 13 of the Idaho Constitution tasks the lieutenant governor as president of the state Senate. If the Senate is ever equally divided in a vote, the lieutenant governor will then vote to decide the tie.
